HPC(D) Faction Surrender Arms, Marking New Chapter of Peace in Mizoram
In a significant step toward lasting peace, cadres of the Hmar Peoples’ Convention (Democratic) – Lalhmingthanga Sanate faction formally surrendered their arms and joined the mainstream during a government-organized ceremony in Sesawng, Mizoram, attended by Chief Minister Lalduhoma and other senior leaders. The event follows a peace agreement signed on April 14, 2026, between the Mizoram government and the faction. At the ceremony, cadres handed over their weapons and pledged to renounce violence. Chief Minister Lalduhoma described the development as a major milestone, declaring Mizoram a fully peaceful state and urging unity among all communities. Officials credited sustained dialogue and government efforts for the breakthrough. Faction leader Lalhmingthanga Sanate said the agreement, while not meeting all demands, was satisfactory and influenced by recent development initiatives. With this move, Mizoram is now free of active ethnic insurgent groups, marking a historic moment in the state’s peace process.
